Worse yet would be to be ignorant of one's colon.
Heavens, she didn't marry the rake, did she? Actually for me, it wouldn't be so much that he didn't know how to use a semicolon, it's if he wouldn't be taught. Ignorance alone isn't necessarily a hanging offense for me, but deliberate ignorance with a side of stubborn is a deal-breaker every time. (All of this presupposes the absolute that semi-colons and their ilk are things of import to be learned.)
